What is the best piece of gardening advice you have
ever been given?
Put Styrofoam in the
bottom of large pots to
keep them light and easy
to move.
Use 3 inches of bark mulch
in your flower beds to
control weed seeds.
Put copper in your
hydrangea soil to produce
blue and purple flowers.
Soil is so important.
Take time to amend
nutrient levels.
When arranging planters plant
with blooms on so you know
what you are planting , when
you have decided how you want
it, snip off blooms so plants
become fuller.
When planting groupings
remember volume makes
an impact.
Plant what pleases
you, not what others
like.Place a scored pamper in
the bottom of a planter to
keep the plants damp.
There are no gardening
mistakes only gardening
experiments.
Grow plants that are
similar to native
species in your area.
Take pictures of your
planters every year to
determine what works the
best and what needs to be
modified when choosing
plants for the next year.
What is your favorite plant to plant?
Lilac poppies Blue Flax, the blue comes out
in the cool temperatures.Sedum, it has unusual
leaves and beautiful
flowers.Moonshine Yarrow, drought
tolerant, colourful all summer
and doesn’t spread.
Gladiola, it has beautiful
colours and flowers.Shasta daisy because they
blend with every flower
reproduce just right every
year.
Spring flowering bulbs,
masses of tulips and
daffodils giving a brilliant
burst of colour and the
portent of what is to follow
throughout the season.
Double petunias as the
leafcutter bees do not
bother them.
Early blooming
single petunias in
fuchsia.
Lavatera flowers, they
are beautiful.
Salvia (May Night),
continuous bloom, well
behaved!
Pansies they are easy to
grow, cheerful, colourful
and overwinter or self-
seed.
Any variety of lily,
they are tough and
beautiful.Sedum, it has unusual
leaves and beautiful
flowers.
Rudbekia (Indian
Summer) it blooms
all season.
“ Hope for Humanity ”
bush rose. It has a
very bright colour and
blooms all summer.
Zinnias, they are easy
going , very colourful
and make great cut
flowers.
Petunias,
underestimated but
so easy to grow and
smell so great.
Marigold
Karl Foerster grass, it is a
great all season perennial.
Hostas are great shad
plants with lots of
interesting colours,
textures and sizes.
Hens and chicks
because they are very
different from other
plants.
Heliotrope beautiful
smell and colour.
Alpine Aster
White Clematis
GeraniumsCalaLily Martagon lily
Roses –not hard to grow,
and they come in many
beautiful colours.
