HomeMy WebLinkAbout2073-24 Electoral Division BoundariesCOUNTY OF NEWELL IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA BYLAW NO. 2073-24 A BYLAW OF THE COUNTY OF NEWELL, IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA, TO ESTABLISH ELECTORAL DIVISION BOUNDARIES AND THE NUMBER OF COUNCILLORS TO SERVE ON COUNTY OF NEWELL COUNCIL. WHEREAS Sections 143, 148 and 155 of the Municipal Government Act, being Chapter M-26 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 2000, and amendments thereto, enables Council to establish the number of Councillors to serve on the Council of the County and other matters; AND WHEREAS Section 148 of the Municipal Government Act, being Chapter M-26 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 2000, and amendments thereto, enables Council to change the divisional boundaries for the County and change the number of divisions and specify the number and/or name assigned to each division; AND WHEREAS section 148 of the Municipal Government Act, being Chapter M-26 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 2000, and amendments thereto, enables the Council to pass a bylaw specifying that there will be one Councillor elected for each division established; NOW THEREFORE the Council of the County of Newell, in the Province of Alberta, duly assembled enacts as foliows: 1. This Bylaw may be cited as the "Electoral Division Boundaries Bylaw". 2. THAT for the purposes of the October 2025 general municipal election and thereafter, Council shall be comprised of nine (9) Councillors with one (1) Councillor elected from each division. 3. THAT for the purposes of the October 2025 general municipal election and thereafter, the number and boundaries of each of the nine (9) divisions shall be as illustrated on the map titled as Schedule 'A' that is attached and forms part of this Bylaw. 4. THAT the title of the Chief Elected Official shall be 'Reeve'. This Bylaw shall take effect on the date of the third and final reading.
