HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-10-17 Environmental Services Supervisor Ad (1) EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES SUPERVISOR The County of Newell is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our team as an Environmental Services Supervisor. This is a full-time permanent position reporting to the Manager of Agricultural Services. The Environmental Services Supervisor is responsible for the efficient operation of weed and pest management programming and for monitoring soil erosion concerns. The position is responsible for acting as an Inspector under the Weed Control Act, an Officer under the Agricultural Pests Act, and an Officer under the Soil Conservation Act. Areas of Responsibility: This is a hands-on job involving fieldwork, public relations, and office work. We are looking for an individual who is knowledgeable about pest control, plant identification, and local farming practices. The primary responsibilities will involve overseeing the Weed Inspection Program and seasonal Vegetation Management Technicians, identifying and mapping noxious and prohibited noxious weeds, and determining viable control options. This position will also help disseminate information through various media, such as social media, print media, and information sessions. Preference will be given to applicants possessing: • Diploma or degree from a post-secondary institution in an agricultural-related field and/or a combination of experience and education. • A pesticide applicator license or willingness to obtain. • Experience with plant identification and herbicide application. • Knowledge of weed control methods. • Working knowledge of computer programs and applications such as Microsoft Office. • A valid Intermediate First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain. • A valid Alberta driver’s licence. • A current driver’s abstract.
