Council Meeting
August 8, 1969
The xegular Council Meeting of the County of Newell No. 4 was
held in the County Office on August 8, 1969 at 10:00 a.m.

The mintites of the 3uly 11th, 1969 Council Meeting were read
and adopted.

Moved by Councillor Bartlett that we accept the Financial
Report for the month of July. Carried.

Application from Farm Electric Services Ltd. re installation
~~ of Powdler Line in 21-18-4 was presented. Moved by Councillor
Ha11 that we approve this application subject to all other
regulations being met. Carried.

,, Application from Gibson Petroleum Co. Ltd. requesting per-
mission to load oil at the Duchess C.P.R. Line at Duchess
was read. Moved by Councillor Bartlett that we approve this
application subject to all other regulations. Carried.

Application from K.O. Brodie for subdivision and construction
of a house in NW 4-19-14_a was read, Moved by Councillor
Hajash that we approve this application subject to a reserve
of 16~ feet on the north side fora road way and that all
other regulations are met. Carried.

Letter from Canadian Pacific Oil & Gas ltd. re road crossing
in 22-19-4 was read. Moved by Councillor Hall that we approve
this application subject to all other regulations being met,
and inspection of this site. Carried.

Letter from the Canadian Pacific Railway re closing and
removing of the Millicent Station was read. Moved by Councillor
Musgrove that we approve this request subject to the fence on
#36 Highway west of Duchess being removed. Carried.

Lettex from the E.I.D. re C. Morris drain and structures was
read and referred to Councillor Musgrove for a further report.

Adjourn for lunch 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.

Moved by Councillor Douglass that no dome-Ec or Industrial
Arts Programs be offered at Gem for the coming school year.
Carried.

Moved by Councillor Bartlett, that Bylaw 384 re sale of
SE 17-18_11-4 and W~ of 14_15-11-4 receive first, second, third
and final reading and passed subject to the approval of Minister.
Carried Unanimously.

Moved by Councillor Larsen that we purchase 19 new typewriters
and typing tables for the Gem School. Carried.

Moved by Councillor Douglass that we approve the appointment
of an extra part-time teacher at Gem if necessary. Carried.

Mr. I. Wigemyr met with the Council to discuss the sale of a
gravel pit. Moved by Councillor Musgrove that we purchase
approximately 11 acres being an area 500 feet by 1000 feet in
the NW of L.S.D 7_29_16-16_4 for the sum of $10,000. Mr.
Wigemyr to produce clear title to the County plus an access
road to the pit. Carried.

Mr. C. Morris and D. OHten of Patricia met with Council to
discuss the purchase of land from their farm for roadway
purposes. This matter was referred to Councillor Musgrove
for further study and report.

Letter from the Department of National Revenue re return of
deposit on motors was read and ordered filed.

Statement of dividends from the Brooks Coop Association was
read and ordered filed.

Letter from the Town of Brooks re alignment of 6th Street East
for County yard purposes was read, and the Secretary advised
~" to proceed in this matter.

Letter from the office of the Prime Minister re Mr. Basford
and beef boycott was read. This letter was ordered released
to the press and then filed.

Letter from the P.F.A.A. re 1969 Crop Claims was presented to
Council and copies of this report distributed for them to
complete and return to the office.

Letter from Alberta Gas Trunk Line Co. Ltd. re construction of
a Meter Station in SE 28-17_12-4 was read. Moved by Councillor
Chrumka that we approve this application subject to all other

Request from Mr, Herbert Wilcox of Scandia re leasing of the
area held by the Scandia Community Centre was presented and
referred to the Secretary for further information.

of surplus gravel at the E.I.D. pit was presented. Moved by
..~ Councillor Chrumka that we refuse their offer but if we do
need the gravel, that we pay foz ft as it is used. Carried.
