June 15, 1965
The postponed regular meeting of the Council of the County of Newell
No. 4 was held in the County office in Brooks, Alberta at 10:00 a.m. on
Tuesday, June 15th, 1965.

The regular meeting of the County Council was postponed to this date,
by the unanimous consent of the Council, due to the Civic Holiday
being declared for the Brooks Rodeo on the regular meeting date June
11th, Notices were mailed to all Councillors advising them of the post-
poned meeting date.
The minutes of the previous meeting of May 7th, 1965 were read and
adopted.
Moved by Councillor Chrumka, that the Secretaries Statement of Receipts
and Payments for the month of May be accepted.
Carried.
Copies of letters of the Town of Brooks, and the Department of Public
Health, re the Brooks Newell Nursing Home District were read and discussed
Moved by Councillor Hajash, that the County division for Wards, for the
Nursing Home purposes be divided as follows
Ward No, 1 County Divisions 1-2&3
2 County Divisions 4-5&6
3 County Divisions 7-8&9
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Chrumka, that the following Councillors be nominated
for the first district board of the Nursing Home District.
Ward No. 1 Councillor Larsen, Rolling Hills,Alberta
2 Reeve Hajash Brooks, Alberta
3 Councillor Eastman Rosemary, Alberta.
Moved by Councillor Eccles, that nominations cease,

A letter from the Board of Transport Commissioners with regard to the
Lathom crossing was read and discussed and referred to Councillor ~.rmstron<
A letter from the Alberta Government Telephones re: Buried cable was
read discussed and ordered filed.
A memo from the Department of Agriculture re the amendment to the Agric-
ultural Service Board Act was read discussed, and ordered filed, for
reference to the next Statutory Meeting.

A proposition from Western School Bus Sales, for the Contract operation
of School Busses was read discussed and the Secretary was directed to '
advise them that the County contemplated no change in the operation of
school busses at this time.
A letter from the Brooks Co-op Assoc. requesting authority for remodel-
ling and expansion was read and discussed, and the Secretary directed
to advise them that more specific details be furnished before any
decision could be given.
A letter from the Rolling Hills Water Users assoc. requesting the County
to collect water rent in the Hamlet of Rolling Hills was read and
discussed, and referred n to the Department of Municipal Affairs for
clarification and direction.
A letter from the Principals Assoc. with regard to a Centennial Project
was read and discussed, and ordered filed pending the result of the
coming meeting of the Centennial Committee of the Town of Brooks.
Moved by Councillor Mandeville, that the application of Wm. R.Lokier
to construct a Service Station on SW 7-15-15-4 South of Highway 36,
be approved, subject to Provincial Government Regulations.
Carried.
A letter from the Scandia Community Centre applying for a Centennial
Grant was read and referred to Mr. Clarke, Chairman of the local
Centennial Committee.
A letter from the Town of Brooks requesting information with regard to
property in the proposed annexation was read and discussed and the
Secretary directed to withold the information until the Local Authorit-
ies Board handed down its decision with regard to the annexation. The
letter was ordered tabled to the next regular meeting in July.
Advice was received of the premission to G. F. Timko to construct a
Service Station NW 21-16-15-4.
Moved by Councillor Douglass that the proposed plans of Farm Electric
Services for the Gem, Rural Electric Assoc. be approved.

Moved by Councillor Hajash, that the application by Hugh Bevan to sub-
divide the SE 4-19-14-4 be approved, subject to Provincial Regulations
and the Town of Brooks.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Mandeville, that the application for the subdivision
of the Sw 5-16-15-4 be approved.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Chrumka, that the application for the subdivision
ofrthe NE 20 & Pt NW 21-16-12-4 be approved.
Carried.

A letter from the Local Authorities Board re the procedure for obtaining
the necessary loan to construct a new Office Building was read and
discussed.
Moved by Councillor Chrumka, that the firm of Maxwell and Campbell,
Consulting Engineer, Calgary be consulted to plan the new office
building.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Chrumka, that the format of Bylaw #278 be changed
to conf orm to the requirements of the Local Authorities Board.
Carried.
A letter from the Alberta Government Telephones re road widening at Gem
was read and discussed and referred to Councillor Douglass for action.
A letter from the nDepartment of Municipal Affairs advising that the
financing of houses for teachers was contrary to the Statutes, was ,T-
read and discussed and ordered filed.
Copy of a letter from Underwood and McLellan to the Chief Bridge Engineer
re the Schindeler Culvert, Nw 4-20-14-4 on the Brooks Duchess road,
was read, discussed, and ordered filed.
Advice was received of the approval of the Natural Resources Road grant
for Gem in the sum of $7500.00.
The request of John W. Johnson, for permission to remove ahouse from
Calgary to an unsubdivided area in Pt NE 4-19-14-4 (H. Charlton) was
refused until such time as the land is properly subdivided.
