The regulE._r monthly meeting of the Council of the County
of Newell 14o.4. was held in the County Office at Brooks,
Alberta at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 13th, 1954•

The minutes of the meetinv of October 9th, 1954 were read
and. adopted.
George -Winters, Foreman, met the Council to discuss and
report on progress of Roadwork and School maintenance.

Mr. Frank Nowicki met the Council with regard to his pro-
posed employment with the County.
iMoved by Councillor lvlcAleese, that the offer of the County
to employ F. Nowicki as mechanic be increased to 4300.00
per month.
Carried.
ivloved by Councillor 04araksa, that the Secretary's reports
of Hevenue, Lxpenditure and monthly progress be ,accepted.

Moved by Councillor Arrison, that Councillor 141ortensen and

donation.

authority to locate he proposed. Trans -Canada Gas Pipe tine
through `Township 20, Range 11, 44th.

The Chairman and Secretary we-ce authorized to sign plans
of the proposed route of the pipeline.
Mr. Pringle of Alberta Civil _iefence, met the Council to
discuss organization of Civil Defence in the County.
The Secretary re ..d a letter from Rainier Fire Fighters' Club
re,;arding the appointment of A. Larson, Rainier, as
Director of Civil Defence for the County.
Moved by Councillor Shuttleworth, that Bylaw No. 110, being
a bylaw to implement a Civil Defence Organization in the
County be given 1st. and 2nd. readin;Js and forwarded to the
Minister of i�'iunicipal .,.ffai.rs for approval.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Lokier, that vir. A. Larson, Hainier, be
appointed Director of Civil Defence for the County.

The Secretary was directed to advise 14r. Novak, Tilley,
that the County hove alr,-!a.dy hired a mechanic.
ir. Rogalsky, Gem, supsorted by Mr. Eggertson, speaking
on his client's behalf.', met the Council to request a re-
duction in taxes on his property for 1954.
Moved by Councillor Plumer, that no Compromise or Remission
of arrears of taxes be made to T4ir. iLogalsky.
Carried.
Roved by Councillor Plumer, that the County proceed with the
building of a new school at Duchess, in accord -nee with the
Sketch Plans of Mitchell, Meech and Associates, eithout the
gymnasium, estimated to cost W118.000.00.
Carried.
The Secretary was directed to advise 1vir. Brietzke, Bassano
School Janitor, that no consideration could be given to his
application for an increase in salary.

Moved by Councillor Plumer that all full-time janitors,
occupying County Teaeherages be deducted the scheduled rent
for the teacherage as and. from, January 1st, 195k
Carried.
The :secretary was directed to have: the Duchess Teacherage
water cistern checked and any necessary work done to furnish
good water.

ivir. G. Krepps met the Council to discuss his annual holidays,
and intentions with regard to a :gelding Course.

The Secretary was directed to obtain information and all
particulars with regard to a member of the staff taking a
°fielders Course.
