FORM 749-P—Special IUMCIPAL SUPPLIES LSD. _« J COUNTY OF NEWELL NO, 4 COUNTY COUNCIL AUGUST 7th, 1954 The regular monthly meeting of the Council of the County of Newell No.4 was held at the County Office in Brooks, Alberta, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 7th, 1954. 0000.. Lokier H.C;'Scammell The minutes of the meeting of July 10th, and the adjourned meeting of July 19th were read and adopted with a cor- rection being made to the motion of Councillor Waraksa correcting the rate to G. Stolson from $13.00 to $15.06 per. day. Councillor Plumer reported with regard to Meech and Mitchell's opinion on construction of a school at Duchess. 0000.. A delegation from Makepeace and Bassano met the Council to request a road to be built'h6rth from Bassano 13 miles. .0.000 It was recommended that Councillors Arrison and Douglass meet with the committee of'the farmers concerned and report back to the County Council;-- Mr. Starritt attended to report and give advice with regard to the teachers' strike. 0000.. Moved by Councillor Plumer that Mr. Starritt be authorized to proceed in the matter of the Countyts argument with the A.T.A. Carried Unanimously. 0000.. Moved by Councillor Arrison, that the Secretaryts reports of Revenue and Expenditure, and -the monthly expenditure progress reports for the month of July be accepted. Carried. 0000.. The Secretary was directed to advise the Canadian Legion ;that their offer is not acceptable,and that the County ;does not wish to dispose of the property at this time. 0000.. The Secretary was directed to obtain hotel accommodation for six councillors to attend the Municipal Convention in Edmonton, November 17th, 18th -'and 19th, 1954. i 0000.. Moved by Councillor McAleese, that the application of Mrs. A.C. Ross to operate a restaurant in the Hamlet of Patricia be approved. It was agreed that, in response to the advice received from the Deputy Minister of Dior;, that the Ministers of EAxat;Wn and Municipal Affairs be invited to meet with the County Council, at a date'arid time of their own choosing. .9000. The mailing list of the Alberta School Trustee was re- vised to date. The Secretary was directed to advise Mike Guidos, Rolling Hills, and Ralph Kristianson, Rolling Hills, that their j bids to drive County School Vans were not acceptable. 9999... The bid of Zeigglers Service to supply gas and oil to County School vans was ordered'held pending further offers. The Secretary was directed to terminate the employment of / Mr. R.E. Lee, janitor of the'Tilley School. 9 .. 9 . . Moved by Councillor Waraksa that the application of Vincent Fabian to drive a School Van in the Tilley District, and do the janitor work in the Tilley School for the sum of $2,700.00 per year be accepted, Carried. . .. .. - The Secretary was directed to advise Mr. Elias that his bid for he School Van and Janitor work at Tilley was not P . . 0 0 0 . It was agreed that one of the large County School Vans be placed in use on one of the-Tlley Van routes. Adjourned for lunch, 1 to 2:OO'p.m. 9999.. It was agreed that one of the large County Busses be placed in use on one of the Duchess Van routes. . . . . . . Moved by Councillor McAleese that the following rates for vanning be approved for the Patricia and Millicent Van Routes:, R. The Secretary reported that Mr. Longpre had recently been gaoled at Bismark, North Dakota, and it was a eed that the former relief payment to Mrs. Longpre of 100.00 per month be resumed. jCommittee Chairman Ockey reported for the School Committee. I' 9999.. I The following rates were approved for the vanning of child- ren in the Bow Bridge, Rainier, and Scandia Districts: (Ross McKayr $7.00 per day, 195 days basis, with his own car. R.C. Approved rate; -'or the School Vans at Gem were as follows: 260 per mile for a van travelling a route of up to 50 miles a day, ¢ per miles for a van travelling a.route $-of over 50 miles a day, on a 195 day basis, paid at 1/10 of the yearly total each month. i ?Rosemary van routes of J.P..Janzen were approved as follows: 2 busses on 4 routes, 195 day basis, ✓ $7,100.00 to be paid in 10 months at $710.00 a month. Moved by Councillor Shuttleworth, that Shaw Construction be tgiven the contract to gravel County roads as set out in he 1954 Roadwork Program, at the following rates. Crushing to 1" and Loading, 60f cu. yard. Existing Government Rates for hauling. Carried. Committee Chairman Mortensen reported for the Municipal Committee. Committee Chairman Arrison reported for the Agricultural Service Board. Moved by Councillor Arrison that the former advertisement for teachers be resumed in the Calgary Herald Edmonton Journal, Lethbridge Herald, and Medicine Hat *ewe, Carried.
