COUNTY COUNCIL JUNE 12th, 1954 The regular monthly meeting of the Council of the County of Newell No -4 was held in the County Office at Brooks, Alberta at 10:00 a•m. on Saturday, June 12, 1954• • . . • • . The Town & Village Members of the School Committee and the School Superintendent were in attendance to discuss the developments with regard to the recent ballot of the teachers and their decision to take strike action if necessary, the result of which favoured strike action by 49 to 15. ♦ . • . • a Moved by Councillor Lokier, that the award of the Arbitration Board be accepted Motion Lost The minutes of the Council meeting of May 8th, 1954 - were adopted as read. Advice was received from Mahoney & Starritt that the County's claim against Standard Gravel had been upheld in the Alberta Supreme Court. Moved by Councillor Ockey that Bylaw No. 105 being a bylaw to cancel the balance of the arrears of the Hon Drilling Company be given 1st, 2nd & 3rd readings and finally passed. Carried Unanimously. Moved by Councillor Shuttleworth, that the price of 2-4-D be reduced to 04.25 per gallon. Carried. A letter from the Director of Assessments denying re- sponsibility in the cost of the General Assessment was ordered filed. Advice was received that the 1954 Roadwork Grant will be $$4,972.00. Moved by Councillor Plumer, that the tender of the Canadian Legion to purchase the Dormitory Building be tabled. Carried. Moved by Councillor McAleese, that the Secretary's Reports of Revenue and Exp enditure and the Progress Stateme�� the month of May be accepted. Carried. FA JRM 149-P—Sp.clal `IICIPAL SUPPLIES LTD. - 2 - Moved by Councillor Shuttleworth that the Medicine Hat Health Unit No.l be given a five-year lease on the office space in the School Building, at the rate of $75.00 per month, said lease to include a six-month notice clause applicable to either party. Carried. Moved by Councillor Waraksa, that Bylaw No. 106 being a bylaw authorising the donation of twenty-five dollars to the Canadian Forestry Association be given lst, 2nd and i 3rd readings and finally passed. !.. Carried Unanimously. COMMITTEE REPORTS Agricultural Service Board Moved by Councillor Plumer.that the Aricultural Service Board be authorized to experiment with aircraft spraying on inaccessible areas in the Bassano - Countess District. School Committee Moved by Councillor Ockey, that the repair to roofs etc., be left to the General Foreman. Municipal Committee Carried. Tremco estimates of discretion of the Carried. The Council concurred in the Committee's actions in having a Nuisance Ground site located at Patricia and also the filling in of the slough in the Hamlet. The Secretary was authorized to sign the petition for paving the road past the County property on 3rd Street West. Moved by Councillor Ockey that the Chairman and Secretary be authorized to contact the manager of the Treasury Branch with regard to financing teacherage units. Carried. Moved by Councillor Arrison, that for the purpose of school van tenders, it is understood that vans be re-uested to pick up children at their gate in the morning, and the children can be requested to walk up to one mile home at night. Carried. Moved by Councillor Waraksa, that the barns at the Renfrew and Bethany School Sites be offered for sale by tender.
