COUNCIL MEETING

The regular September meeting of the Council of the
County of Newell No. 4, was held in the County Office
in Brooks, Alberta, at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September
18th 1953.
Members present:

The rgihutes of the previous meeting of August 4th 1953
wegiread and adopted.
i�ioved by Councillor Ockey, that the cost of rebuilding
the IZatziwin Creek bridge between Sections 19 and 20-21-
15-4 for access to the Rosemary grazing leases, by the
E.I.D., be guarranteed by the County, pending the decision
of the Provincial Government.

Mr. Paul Juhas met the Council to discuss gravelling,
and quoted the following rates.
Stripping, Crushing and Loading ?5 cu. yard
Hauling at Government Rates
14r. Wm. Shaw met the Council to discuss gravelling, and
quoted the following rates.
Crushing, Loading and Screening 65� cu yard.
14r. Ayling, Mr. Bieber and 14r. W. Turlock, representing
the majority of the School Van drivers met with the
Council to discuss and endeavor to work out a new basis
for rates to be paid for conveying children to school.
Moved by Councillor Vuaraksa, that the School Van drivers
be offered the following rates:

Councillor 111ortensen reported on the 111unicipal
Committee meeting.
!goved by Councillor Shuttleworth, that Authority be
Riven to Councillor �4araksa to make a contract with
i,ir. Paul Juhas to complete the rebuilding of road 1vo.7
as shown in the 1953 roadwork program. Said rebuilding
to include 5 approaches and the supplying of the necessary
culverts for same, 4xpenditure on the road not to exceed
X1500.00 and to be completed to Councillor Waraksa's
satisfaction.

Councillor Cckey reported on the School Committee
meeting.
i4oved by Councillor Cckey, that the secretary's reports
of revenue and expenditure for the month of august be
accepted.

Canadian hock Wool dales for the insulation of
teacherages in previous years, be paid as soon as
finances permit.

Olga Baran 's position with regard to continuance of
her Grade 12 in Calgary,

The secretary was directed to acknowledge the Mire
Commissioners reports on the Hamelets of !Millicent and
Patricia, and to follow up the reports as directed by
him.
An application by R.H. Lee to drive a School Van at
Tilley was referred to Councillor ';yaraksa.
The Secretary was directed to subscribe to the Alberta
'leachers association magazine for all of the members of
the School Committee, and one as an office copy.

Moved by Councillor Arrison, that Councillor Waraksa be
appointed as a committee of one, to inquire into the costs
of installing natural gas for heating the Renfrew School.

The C6uncil concurred in the Secretary's action to obtain
information with regard to the comparative low grants
the County receive under the Municipal Assistance Act.

Committee in accepting the bid of C.K. Adamson to deliver
coal to the County Schools at the sum of $3.50 per ton,
and recommended that Stoker Coal from the Rolling Hills
Mine be used wherever possible, for comparative purposes.l/
