FIhST ANNUAL MEETING.
rEBitUARY 20th, 195.
The first Annual 1~Ieeting of the County of Newell No.1~
was held in the Elks Hall at Brooks, Alberta at 1:00
p.m. on Saturday, February 20th, 1954.
X11 members of the Bounty Council were present, together
with the Returning; Officer, TJ1r. K . Lintott , and the
Secretary-Treasurer, H.C. ~camrnell. Approximately 100
r«tepayers attended.
At 1:00 p.m., the .returning Officer called the meeting; to
ardor and called. for nominations for Chairman.

Chairman.
There being no ot~.er nominations, Nr. Tiegs was declared as
Chairman of the meeting.
H.C. Scamrnell was appointed Secretary.

On the question from the floor as to th~~ merits of the
County system of overnment, iy~r. r~huttleworth and i~ir. Ockey
expressed the opinion that in many ways, the present ad-
ministration had advantabes over the previous system.

Tyr. U.P. Larson discussed the School <<eport and highlighted
some of the educational problems of the County.
At 3:00 p.m. the meeting recessed for 15 minutes to permit
the ratepayers to submit any nomination papers for Council-
lors and Hospital Board T~iembers.
Discussion on educational matters continued until 4:00,
when the r"ieturnin~ Officer announced th<; results of the
nominations as follows
