Attention: County of Newell Rate Payers
RE: Discontinuation of Regionalization Discussions
This letter is distributed for the purpose of confirming that County Council has formally withdrawn from
Regionalization discussions that were underway with some of the County’s neighboring urban communities.
That decision was made respecting concerns raised by residents of the County. It has always been and
continues to be Council’s position that elected representatives need to respect, respond to, and advance
the interests of the public to whom Elected Officials are accountable.
With the regionalization option off the table, Council now needs to proceed with working out the terms of
Intermunicipal Collaboration Framework (ICF) Agreements required under the Municipal Government Act
by April 1, 2020.
Council is committed to effectively representing and serving the long-term needs of Newell residents with
our work on the ICF agreements. The impacts of shifting economic times within our county and province
are sure to add an extra dynamic. Efforts will be made to keep the public informed on the progress made
during the ICF negotiation process.
