TITLE: ADMINISTRATION OF THE SAFETY CODES ACT

POLICY STATEMENT: The Safety Codes Act establishes the legislative framework for the
development of safety codes and the delivery of safety codes services for municipalities, industry
and the public in Alberta. The County recognizes that safety codes services are necessary for
development and will strive to make delivery of those services affordable and efficient for
developers within its municipal boundaries.
POLICY PURPOSE: This policy establishes a framework for how safety codes services will be
delivered in the County of Newell.
POLICY GUIDELINES:
Administration shall:
1. Administer the Safety Codes Act within the municipal boundary of the County of Newell.
2. Maintain Municipal Accreditation in the following disciplines:
a. Building
b. Electrical
c. Gas
d. Plumbing
3. Ensure that safety code services are delivered in accordance with the Quality
Management Plan approved by the Safety Codes Council.
4. Review the Quality Management Plan and fees for service on an annual basis.
5. Continue to explore options to amend the program that will provide more efficient service
delivery and/or an increased regional benefit.
