POLICY STATEMENT:
Pest control services are provided by the Agricultural Services Department for certain pests listed
under the Agricultural Pests Act. The services are provided as an aid only and should be coupled
with good prevention and management to reduce the potential for problems both now and in the
future.
POLICY PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for pest control services provided by the
Agricultural Services Department.
POLICY GUIDELINES:
Coyotes
To aid in the reduction of coyote related damage.
1. The Coyote Control Incentive Program (CCIP), provides incentives to promote the hunting
of coyotes during times when damage is most prevalent.
2. Agricultural Services staff will provide names and contact information for reputable
hunters to residents who are having problems with coyote harassments or predation.
Agricultural Services will investigate coyote harassment or predation at the request of a
farmer or rancher and may issue poison baits if the situation warrants.
3. Investigations by the Agricultural Fieldman are carried out in accordance with Form 8
requirements under the Agricultural Pests Act and require the payment of the fee specified
in the Schedule of Fees Bylaw.
4. If a Form 8 is not issued, no fee will be charged by the investigating officer.
5. Investigations will only be carried out by qualified staff that are in possession of a Form 7.
6. Poison may only be issued under specific circumstances as described in the Agricultural
Pests Act.
Other Nuisances and Pests
Agricultural Services staff will investigate damage by other nuisances or pests under the
Agricultural Pest Act. If there is the potential for the introduction and spread of the pests or
diseases the Agricultural Services Department will work with landowners to aid in control
measures.
