POLICY PURPOSE:
The purpose of this Policy is to define the parameters of the mowing programs.
POLICY GUIDELINES:
Roadside Mowing
1. The mowing programs will be managed by the Agricultural Services Department
and, without limiting the program or its effectiveness, will generally be planned
as follows:
a) Hamlet and subdivision roads will be mowed on an “as needed” basis during
the growing season.
b) Properties owned and maintained by the County will be mowed on an as
needed basis (ie: municipal reserves, airports, public utility lots, water
distribution centers, etc.)
c) Local County roads will receive a minimum of one mowing per year.
d) Regrowth on local roads, where deemed necessary, will be mowed as time
and weather permits.
e) Mowing will be conducted so the least distance is travelled in order to carry
out the program.
f) High traffic roads (Paved or otherwise) will be mowed to a minimum of 20 feet
from the road edge or to the fence line whichever is less
2. County owned equipment will not be used to mow private parcels without
permission from the Director of Agricultural Services
3. It is recognized that inclement weather, such as an early winter, could prevent
completion of the program.
4. Road grading operations will be carried out in a manner that will not affect the
efficiency of the mowing operations.
5. Spraying of roads will be co-ordinated to complement the Roadside Mowing
Program, whenever possible.
