RURAL BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS

POLICY PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines, procedures and requirements for awarding
the annual Rural Beautification Awards.
POLICY GUIDELINES:
1. Beautification awards will be awarded on an annual basis.
2. All nominees will be notified before any representatives of the County visit their
premises.
3. Three awards will be awarded throughout the entire County.
4. A bus tour will be provided to showcase the top three yards.
5. Photos of each winner’s yard will be placed on the County website.
6. Winners will receive a personalized award/gift.
7. All rural yards will be judged on their own merit including dryland and irrigated alike.
8. Request for nominations will be advertised yearly in the local paper, the County of
Newell website and County social media pages
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. No employees or members of County Council will be eligible.
2. To qualify, all candidates must maintain their own yards (i.e. no hired gardeners or
maintenance personnel).
3. Yards must be a minimum of one acre in size to qualify

Design with a pleasing combination of elements. Elements such as color, texture
and plants appear in a manner that implies continuity

Visual balance of color, size and scale. Trees, flowers, ornaments and foliage
create a visually pleasing balance.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Director of Agricultural Services will:
determine the cutoff date for nominations in consultation with the Municipal
Services Administrative Assistant.
tour the judges to the nominated yards and act as a tie breaker for determining
the winning yards.
host the tour of the yards and act as a guide for participants.
Municipal Services Administrative Assistant will assist with planning and coordinating of
the activities.
Other staff from the Agricultural Services department may be required to act as support
for the tour activities.
