HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-04-08 Annual General Meeting (Annual General) MinutesCounty of Newell No. 4 34th Annual Meeting April 8, 1987 The 34th Annual Meeting of the County of Newell No. 4 was held in the Elks Hall at Brooks, Alberta on April 8, 1987 commencing at 1:30 p.m. There were 10 Councillors, 1 Town & Village Representative, P.W. Supervisor, Assessor, County Administrator and 16 ratepayers in attendance at this meeting. The Administrator opened the meeting at 1:30 p.m. and called for the election of a Chairman for the meeting. R. Peltzer was nominated by G. Tomlinson. Moved by G. Tomlinson that nominations cease. Carried. R. Peltzer took over the chair. Nominations were then opened for a Secretary for the meeting. D. James was nominated by H. Grosfield. There being no further nominations, the Chairman declared D. James elected as Secretary for the meeting. Agenda Moved by R. Eastman, seconded by T. Rommens, that we adopt the proposed Agenda as presented. Carried. School Report The School Board Chairman advised that the School Report had been presented in November and copies of the report were published in the local newspapers and are available at the County Office. Moved by T. Livingston, seconded by T. Rommens, that we accept this report as presented. Carried. Minutes Minutes of the 33rd Annual Meeting were read. Moved by G. Tomlinson, seconded by D. Alberts, that we adopt these minutes as read. Carried. Business from Minutes There was no business arising from the minutes. Inspector's Report The Administrator read the Inspector's Report for 1986. Moved by A. Berg, seconded by H. Grosfield, that we accept this report. Carried. Reeve's Report Reeve Workes gave his report for 1986. Moved by Councillor ~~ Workes, seconded by T. Livingston, that we accept this report. Carried. Discussion The following items were discussed from the Reeve's Report: dust control on County roads, JoAnn Road, John Ware Trail and the County grid system. Moved by A. Eckert, seconded by T. DeJong, that the County Council place the John Ware Trail on a high priority for reconstruction. Vote on the motion - Carried. Agricultural Report The Chairman of the Agricultural Committee, LeRoy Nelson, gave this report in the absence of the Fieldman, Ed Pratt. Moved by Councillor Nelson, seconded by A. Eckert, that we accept this report. Carried. Discussion A lengthy discussion took place in regard to the regulations in controlling weed problems and the matter of follow-up on these regulations to ensure that all persons involved take the necessary control measures as required. Discussion then took place in regard to enforcement of Certificates of Compliance. Hospital & Nursing Home Report Councillor Christensen gave the Bassano Hospital Report. Councillor Fabian gave the Brooks Hospital Report. Moved by Councillor Fabian, seconded by G. Tomlinson, that we accept these reports. Carried. Miscellaneous Reports Senior Citizens' Lodge Councillor Regehr gave this report. Moved by Councillor Regehr, seconded by T. Rommens, that we accept this report. Carried. New Business 1. Senior Outreach Program Roberta Rogers and Glenda Goudie made a presentation on the Senior Outreach Program and requested support from the County of Newell in regard to this Program 2. Soil Conservation Further discussion then took place in regard to soil conservation and erosion problems. 3. Road Allowances Discussion took place in regard to the backsloping of road allowances. Vote of Thanks G. Tomlinson then gave a vote of thanks to the Council for all of their work carried out in 1986.
