August 6, 1965
The regular monthly meeting of the Council of the County of Newell No. 4
was held in the County Office in Brooks, Alberta at 10:00 a.m. on
Friday, August 6th, 1965.

The minutes of the previous meeting of July 9th, and the Special
Meeting of July 21st were read and adopted.
Moved by Councillor Chrumka that the Secretary's reports of Receipts
and Payments and Monthly Progress to July 31st be accepted.
Carried.
A letter from Sunalta Appraisals Ltd re appraisal of County Build-
ings, contents, and Equipment for insurance purposes was read, discus-
- sed and ordered filed.
Advise was received from the Department of Highways of the approval
of the changes and renovations to the B.A. Service on the Trans-
Ca na da .
Copy of a letter from the Eastern Irrigation District to the De~.rtment
of Higl-~rays re Bridge 71399 S of C 15-21-15-4 was read discussed and
ordered filed.
A letter from the Department of Highways re the award of the tort ract
for the 1965 Hardsurfacing to Gallelli was read, discussed and ordered
filed.
Moved by Councillor Larsen, that the plans of the Rolling Hills R.E.A.
be approved.
Carried.
A letter from the Field Crops Branch with regard tc a meeting in Taber
August 10th, to consider Ringrot Control was read, discussed and ordered
filed.
A letter from the Live Stock Branch re the assistance offered in
acquiring of weight scales was read discussed and ordered filed.
Moved by Councillor Hajash,,that the proposed leasing of Pt SE 8-19-14-4
by J.D. Bradshaw to Finnie Hauling Contractors Ltd., be approved,
subject to Provincial Gov't Regulations and Town of Brooks.
Carried.

Correspondence with regard to the formation of the Brooks-Newell Nursing
Home District No. 10 was read and ordered filed.
Moved by Councillor Hajash, that the application of W. Delday to
establish a warehouse and a home on the ~2 of NW4 4-19-14-4 be approved
subject to Provincial and Town of Brooks regulations.
Carried.
Letters from Underwood & McLellan with regard to their proposed Seminar
August 30th in Calgary was read and discussed, The Reeve and Councillor
Armstrong having indicated their intention to attend, the letters were
ordered filed.
Moved by Councillor Hajash, that the application of Canadian Western Natural
Gas o. for a road crossing Nw 1-19-14-4 to serve .Toe Urban be approved.
Carried.

accepted.

Moved by Councillor Larsen, that Bylaw No. 288 to authorize the purchase
of a Parkwood Trailer Home from Mid West Trailers to be used as~steacherage
for the sum of $5400.00 installed at the Rolling Hills School Site, be
given, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd readings and finally passed.
Unanimously Carried.
It was unanimously agreed that the County should not use its machinery to
maintain the Rainier and Scandia access r oads at the present time due to --
the shortage of the necessary equipment.

Board be accepted.

In order to formulate a program of road improvement it was recommended
that a traffic count be made on the following rands this fall:
On the old No. 1 from -west of the Gem Road to the Trans-Canada
On the Rolling Hills oad, from the Trans-Canada to the Church Road
Corner, and from the Church Road Corner East.
On the Patricia Road, from the Duchess Road Corner to Patricia
From Patricia to the Trans-Canada .
Town of Brooks on the Cassils Road to Highway 36,
From Gem to the Hussar Road north of Gem East and ti~est.
Moved by Councillor Grosfield, that the resz~lution to authorize an addition
to the Duchess school to provide library facilities copy of which is attached
and forms part of the minutes of this meeting be passed.

Resolution
A resolution of the County of Newell No. 4 to recommend the
addition to the Duchess School, to provide Library facilities.
WHEREAS, the present facilities in the Duchess School does not
provide for any space for proper library accommodation,
WHEREAS, in the opinion of the County Council this type of service
is a very necessary requirement to maintain the highest standard
in education.
TI~REFORE, be it resolved, that application be made to the School
Buildings Board for the necessary authority to proceed with an
addition to the Duchess School to provide Library accommodation,
Done and passed by the unanimous consent of the County Council
this 6th day of August, 1965.
