The regular monthly meeting of the Council of the County of
Newell No. 1~. was held in the County Office in Brooks, Alberta,
at 1~:00 a.m. on Friday, January 9th, 1959.

The minutes of the meeting of December 12, 195$ were read & adopted.

Moved by Councillor Vossler that the Secretaryts report of Receipts
and Disbursements for the month of December be .accepted.
. Carried.
Letters of thanks were received from the Salvation Armor and
the Institute for the Blind.
. .
Plans and specifications for the Tilley and Duchess school additions
were received with advice that tenders were to close at noon
on Friday, January 23rd.
. .
A resolution protesting the offering for sale of the Antelope
Creek school buildings from local ratepayers, was read and i
ordered filed.

Moved by Councillor IvlcAleese that the report of the Civil Defence
Co~.ttee be accepted.

Moved by Councillor Armstrong that the report of the Hospital
Committee be accepted.

Moved by Councillor Lokier that the report of the Agricultural

Moved b~T Councillor Armstrong that notice be given to the Department
of Education that the County is considering the possibility of
moving a one room school into the Hutterite Colony for the purpose
of eliminating the contentious items in the present Hutterite
o~med school.

Moved by Councillor Douglass that the Range Coulee school be closed
and the children be transported to Gem school by school bus. ~

Moved by Councillor Hajash that the report of the Municipal Committee
be accepted.

Moved by Councillor McAleese that the Municipal Committee be
authorized to purchase two motor graders.

Moved by Councillor McAleese that gravel in the Osta,fichuk pit
be made availably to County ratepayers only by application to
the County Office_or their local councillor. ~

Returning Officer for the County for the year 1959.

Moved by Councillor Armstrong that the bid of Tai. Skuban, Tilley,
of ~ 150.00 for the barn and coal shed at Antelope Creek be accepted.

Moved by Councillor Plumer that the bids received on the Antelope Creek
school, swings, and toilets be refused.

Moved by Councillor Lokier that authorization be given to purchase
a paxcel of land in Scandia from the Scandia Corturtunity Centre for
the sum of ~ 550.00 for school purposes.

The ;Secretary was directed to advise Mrs. Stonehouse that no
consideration would be given to paying her both High School and the ~
alleged Home Economics bonus.
