COUNTY OF NEWELL N0, 4
The First meeting of the Council of the County of Newell No. 4 was
held in the School Division Office in Brooks, Alberta at 2.00 p.m.
on Monday, March 9th, 1953•

As a result the ballot:
J. Mortensen was elected Chairman.
It was unanimously agreed, that the accounts of the County for both
the School and the Municipal Committees must be passed for payment
by the County Council.
Nominations for members to the Agricultural Service Board were as
follows:

Moved by Councillor Arrison, that nominations cease.

It was unanimously agreed, that the following salaries be approved:
Secretary -Treasurer H. C. Scammell 51000.00 per Year
C. B. Robertson 3,700.00 per Year
Mrs. M. Calwait 125.00 per month

Moved by Councillor Shuttleworth, that the above salaries be effectiv,
retroactive to January 1st, 1953•

Moved by Councillor Plumer, that the arrangement thereby the Sec-
retary -Treasurer be paid a Car Allowance of § 20.00 per month plus
6¢ per mile for each mile necessarily travelled on County business
be continued.

The Bonds of the Secretary -Treasurer and Assistant in the sums of
10,000.00 and $ 2,500.00 respectively were presented and approved.
Moved by Councillor Arrison, that the following schedule of meeting
days be approved:
School Committee to meet on the Tuesday of every
Third week of the month at 10.00 a.m. in the School Division Office.
Municipal Committee to meet on the Friday of every
Third week of the month at 10.00 a.m. in the County Office.
County Council to meet on the Friday of every third
week of the month at 2.00 p.m. in the School Division Office.

The First School Committee meeting March 17th.
The First Municipal Committee and 2nd County meetings to be held
March 20th, 1953•
Moved by Councillor Plumer, that the following be appointed to the
School Committee:
Mrs. M. Kelly, Town of Bassano
Mr. Glen Stanford, Village of Rosemary.
and that should the Village of Tilley appoint a representative to the
School Committee previous to the First meeting, he or her, be invited
to attend.

muneration to.the Chairman, Councillors and Members of the School
Committee from the Towns and Villages, attached to and forming part
of these minutes be.passed.

Moved by Councillor Ockey, that the County of Newell No -4 conduct
their banking business with the Treasury Branch in Brooks, Alberta.

Moved by Councillor Ockey, Seconded by Councillor Waraksa, that the
Banking resolution authorizing the Chairman, Councillor Shuttleworth,
or Councillor Mortensen, together with Secretary -Treasurer to be the
signing authorities for the County be passed.

authorize the County to borrow an ammount not to exceed Two Hundred
Thousand ($200,000.00) be given First, Second and Third Readings and
finally passed.

Local A.T.A. that the School Committee would be prepared to meet with
their Committee at 4.00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 17th, 1953.
Moved by Councillor Arrison, that in view of the fact, that many of
the Councillors would be attending the Bull Sale in Calgary, the
Municipal Committee and Council meeting be postponed to Monday, March
23rd, 1953•

Section 164 of the 1,1unicipal Districts Act, the following remune-
rations be paid to the Chairman, Councillors and members of the
School ConIrrittee for the year 1953.
