7th Annual Meeting
February 20th, 1960.
The Seventh Annual Meeting of the County of Newell No. 4 was held in
the Elk's Hall in Brooks, Alberta, at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday,
February 20th, 1960.

it 1:00 p.m, the Returning Offiaer, Mr. K. Lintott, opened the
meeting and due to the small number of ratepayers present,
adjourned the opening of the meeting for 30 minutes.

All members of the County Council were present at the meeting,
together with the Returning Officer, Secretary-Treasurer, Agricultural
Service Board Supervisor, and School Superintendent.

Approx. 150 ratepayers attended.

Mr. Phil Ruby was elected chairman by acclamation.

Mr• H• Scammell was elected as secretary by acclamation.

Moved by Mr• Burk and Mr• Gazdarica, that the proposed agenda
be accepted. Carried.

Moved by Mr. Hajash and Mr. Burk that the minutes of the previous
meeting be adopted as read.
Carried.

Moved by Mr. Jackson and Mr. Burk that the Auditoris Financial
Statement be accepted and discussed page by page as questioned.
Carried.

There followed discussion on many and varied items pertaining to the
operation of the County in all. of its ~rarious departments.

At 3:00 p•m• the meeting was turned over to the Returning Officer
who gave notice of the period for the acceptance of nominations
for councillor in the Divisions 2 - 4 & 8.

The chaizznan called a recess of 15 minutes to permit the completion
of nomination papers.

Mr• Fred Betton, School Superintendent, was questioned and discussed
the report with regard. to school operation..

Moved by Mr. Jackson and Mr. Waraksa that the report of the Municipal
Inspector be accepted.

Mr, Del Found, on behalf of Mr. E. Gordon presented a resolution
requesting consideration be accorded local truckers etc. copy
of which is attached hereto and forms part of the minutes of this
meeting. Mr. A. P. Jensen seconded the resolution. after considerable
discussion the resolution was

At 4:00 p.m. the B~eturning Officer announced the results of
nominations as follows:
Division 2 Tilley 0. Vossler & A. P. Jensen
4 rainier - Scandia W. Lokier & C. R. Andrews

It was announced that Ben E. Flamer was elected by acclamation
to Division g, and that elections would be held in I?ivisions 2 and 4
in accordance with the Municipal Districts 1~ct.

Moved by Mr. Waraksa and Mr. Jackson that consideration be given to
the bai.l.ding of a county. school in the Tam of Brooks.

Moved by Mr. Jensen and Mr. Jackson that the County
take notice of the Provincial Goverinment~s action with regard
to the Cameron 8eport as it relates to CQmraunity Colleges,
and press for a counnunity college to be located in Brooks.
Carried.

Moved by Mr. Isdene and Mr. Anderson that the County Council be
requested to investigate. the possibility of having the ~ssessmsnt get
amended to give easement to properties in Hamlets..
Carried.

PreBentation of a cheque for ~ 3b2.07 and the 2nd share from
the Brpoks Co-op. Association. was made to the County by
Mr. George Larson..

the rervenue from the gravelling of County roads in our
community;
AND WAS rates for trucking have been established by the Provincial
government;
.AND W~ these rates are paid for gravel hauling in other
~_ municipalities and counties;
T~'0&E BE IT RESOLVID THAT t
(1) Preference be given local truckers in County of Newell No. 4
gravelling contracts;
{2) Prevailing government trucking rates be paid to the truckers
for gravel hauling;
(3) Local truckers be advised, through their association, seven (7)
days in advance of the commencement of gravelling of County roads
and/or 8tock~g piling for same;
