IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA
BYLAW NO. 2008-21
A BYLAW OF THE COUNTY OF NEWELL, IN THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA, TO ESTABLISH
INCENTIVES FOR PAYMENT OF TAXES AND PENALTIES FOR NON-PAYMENT OF TAXES.
WHEREAS Section 339 of the Municipal Government Act, R.S.A. 2000, Chapter M-26 as
amended, provides that a Council may by bylaw provide incentives for payment of taxes by the
dates set out in the bylaw;
AND WHEREAS Section 344 of the said Municipal Government Act states a Council may by
bylaw impose penalties in the year in which a tax is imposed if the tax remains unpaid after the
date shown on the tax notice;
AND WHEREAS Section 345 of the said Municipal Government Act states a Council may by
bylaw impose penalties in any year following the year in which a tax is imposed if the tax remains
unpaid after December 31 of the year in which it is imposed;
NOW THEREFORE, the Council of the County of Newell enacts as follows:
1. a discount of 2.5% be applied to all current municipal taxes paid by June 15th;
2. a penalty of 8% be applied to all current taxes outstanding as of November 15th;
3. a penalty of 12% be applied to all taxes in arrears as of March 1st each year.
This Bylaw shall come into force upon the passing thereof and hereby rescinds Bylaw 1991-20.
