2020 Property Assessment & Tax Notices
This is notification from the County of Newell that the 2020 Property Assessment & Tax Notices
have been mailed. If you do not receive your Property Assessment & Tax Notice by May 31,
please contact the County of Newell to obtain a copy.
In recognition of the current economic challenges, Council passed a Tax Penalties & Incentive
Bylaw (1991-20) that replaces the previous tax penalty bylaw. This new bylaw provides for:
a discount of 8% applied to all current municipal taxes paid by June 15th:
a penalty of 5% applied to current year taxes outstanding as of December 15th;
a penalty of 10% applied to all taxes in arrears as of March 1st of each year.
The discount is applied only to the taxes that are retained by the County of Newell. The School
and Newell Foundation taxes are collected by the County, but then forwarded on to those
respective parties. The 8% discount is applied only to the taxes listed under the Tax “Municipal”
Category on your tax notice.
To take advantage of the discount, payment of your taxes must be made by 4:30 p.m. on June
15th, 2020. The County Office is currently closed to the public but there are several non-contact
ways to pay your taxes that do not require you to attend the office. Additional information about
the following options are available on the County web site:
1. Online/telephone banking through your financial institution
2. Interac e-transfer to eft@newellmail.ca
3. Credit Card using OptionPay (there is a fee collected by OptionPay for this service)
4. Cheque or Money Order sent through the mail. Please note, post-dated cheques payable to
the County of Newell are acceptable provided they are dated and received prior to June 15th.
NOTE: To ensure your payment is applied to the correct account, include the bottom return
portion of the Tax Notice referencing the Tax Roll that is being paid with your payment.
