MINUTES OF SPECIAL COUNCIL
May 6, 2023
The Special Council Meeting of the County of Newell was held in the County Office and
livestreamed to the public via Lifesize on Saturday, May 6, 2023 commencing at 8:34 a.m.
The purpose of the meeting was to consider a request from the Alberta Emergency Management
Agency to send fire apparatus and firefighter support staff to assist with the wildfire in Edson, AB.

Reeve A. Doerksen called the meeting to order at 8:34 a.m.
2. EXCUSED FROM MEETING
All members were in attendance at this meeting.
3. ADOPTION OF AGENDA
Reeve A. Doerksen confirmed that the purpose of this Special Council meeting is to
consider a request from the Alberta Emergency Management Agency for fire apparatus
and firefighter support staff to assist with the wildfire in Edson, AB.

4. Alberta Emergency Management Agency Request for Support in Edson, AB
The Newell Regional Fire Chief provided background information on this item and
responded to questions from Council. Discussion followed.
C-164/23 MOVED BY COUNCILLOR K. CHRISTMAN that Council approves sending up to a total
of four (4) Fire Apparatus, (two (2) tenders, and two (2) rapid response vehicles), and up
to 14 firefighters to respond to the wildfire near Edson as the province requests it.
