The regular Council Meeting of the County of Newell No. 4 was held in the County
Office at Brooks, AB on Thursday, May 21, 1998 commencing at 10:00 a.m.

2. Minutes
1) Council Minutes -May 7, 1998
Minutes of the May 7, 1998 meeting were presented. Moved by Councillor Stobbs
that we adopt these minutes as amended. Carried.
3. Call for Post Agenda Items
The Reeve called for post agenda items.
4. Adoption of A enda
Moved by Councillor Fabian that we adopt the agenda as amended. Carried.

Councillor Scheuerman arrived at the meeting at 10:03 a.m.
Correspondence
1. Meadows Par Three Golf Course Ltd -Tax Concession Request
A letter from Meadows Par Three, requesting a tax concession, was presented to
Council. The County Assessor, John Dell, was in attendance and presented
information on this request. Moved by Councillor Baksa that we deny the request of
Meadows Par Three for a Tax Concession as they are not anot-for-profit organization.
Carried.
2. Town of Brooks -County Fire Permits
A letter from the Town of Brooks, regarding County Fire Permits, was presented to
Council. Moved by Councillor Daniels that the Fire Permits for Divisions 5 & 10 be
issued from the County Office if the Fire Chief is unavailable to issue them. Carried.
3. The Smile Trust -National Kid's Dav -June 6th
A letter from The Smile Trust /National Kid's Day, requesting that June 6th be
proclaimed National Kid's Day, was presented to Council. Moved by Councillor Berg
that we proclaim June 6th as National Kid's Day. Carried.
4. Garth Lucas -Course Request
A letter from Garth Lucas, requesting approval for an Auditing Course, was presented
to Council. Moved by Councillor Baksa that we approve the request from Garth
Lucas. Carried.

7. Other Business

1. Lifting of Burn Bans
Moved by Councillor Fabian that we remove the current County Fire Ban. Defeated.
Moved by Councillor Stobbs that we have a meeting with the County Fire Chiefs, or
their designate, as soon as possible to discuss fire issues. Carried.
8. Treasurer's Report
Moved by Councillor Loewen that we approve the Treasurer's Report for April, 1998.
Carried
9. Post Agenda Items
1. Town of Bassano -Mini-Bus

The County Administrator read a letter, for information, from the Town of Bassano
with regard to the Newell Mini-Bus going to Bassano once per month.
2. Street Signs -Hamlet of Scandia
This item was referred to the next meeting.
3. Elected Officials Symposium
Moved by Councillor Berg that the Councillors be allowed to attend the Elected
Officials Symposium if they so wish. Moved by Councillor Fabian that the motion be
amended to add that the County pay for the Symposium and expenses but not the per
diem. Vote on amendment. Defeated. Vote on original motion. Carried.
Moved by Councillor Loewen that the June 11th Council Meeting be moved to June
9th to accommodate the Councillors attending the Elected Officials Symposium.

4. Point of Order Motion -April 9 1998 Meeting
Councillor Fabian asked as to the contents of the letter from Brownlee Fryett with
regard to the Point of Order Motion. He was advised that a release was published in
the May 13th edition of the Brooks Bulletin.
