The regular monthly meeting of the Council of the County of Newell -
No. 4 was held in the County Office in Brooks, Alberta, at
10:00 a,m, on Friday, November 9th, 1956.

known as the Russell and the Hill project

The Secretary was directed to endeavour to arrange a meeting
with the Town of Brooks Council to discuss mutual Civil Defence '
problems.

Notice was received from the Town of Brooks that their fire
fighting equipment sha]1 be confined to the limites of the Towns

The :ecretary was directed to advise the Tilley Band Committee
that no payment would be made to them on account of band
until more assurance was forthcoming as to its benefit to the schools

Moved by Councillor Lokier that a sink be installed in the Home L;
Economics room at Jenny Lind School.

The estimate from the Armco Drainage Cos re the proposed Steel
Building to be used as a garage, workshop and storage space
for school vans, snowplows, etc. to improve school services,
was discussed at length.

Mr. Earl 51ack of Armeo Drainage met the Council to discuss the
estimate on the metal building.-

Season attached to and forming part of the minutes of this
meeting be passed.

approval was given to have Armco Drainage & Metal Products
construct a 40 x 80 x 12 steel building at the County Yard
on footings for the sum of ~ 13,700.00.

Moved by Councillor Lokier, that a secondhand piano owned
by Mr. Lillehei, gcandia, be purchased for the sum of ~ 400.00. -~

Councillor.Lokier was appointed to the Salary Negotiating
Committee.

Resolution.
A resolution of the County of Newell No. 4 to notify the
Honorable E. C. Manning, Premier, and the Honorable Norman
Wilmore, Minister of Lands & Mines of the objection of
the Council to the open season on Antelope withih the
boundaries of the County of Newell No. 4
Whereas the revised Game Regulations for the Province
permit the shooting of antelope throughout
the Province in the week November 23 to
30th, 1956.
And Whereas the majority of the residents of this County
have indicated their objection to the slaughter
of the antelope which they are only too
pleased to feed and. preserve.
Therefore be it resolved that the Council of the County
of Newell No. 4 does hereby respectfully
notify the Hon. Premier E. C. Manning and
the Honorable Minister of Lands & Mines, Mr. Norman
Wilmore, that it is unanimously opposed to
the shooting of antelope within the boundaries
of this County.

A resolution of the County of Newell No. 4 to express to the
Hon. ~. W. Hinman, Provincial Treasurer, the wishes of th®
Council of the County of Newell No. 4 with regard to the
indicated implementation of a Provincial Sales Tax.
idhe~ in .the opinion of the Council of the County of
Newell Nv. 1,., it is indicated by statements at
public meetings and in the presffi, that considerable
thought is being given by the Provincial Government
to the implemonting of a Provincial Sales Tax.
~~, Whereas f.n the opinion of this Council such a tax would
greats a considerable burden to the tax payers
and r®sidents of this County.

does hereby respectfully notify the Honorable

the suggested implementing of a Sales Tax
in. this Province.
