COUNTY OF NEWELL NO. 4
COUNCIL hEETING APRIL 24, 1953•
The regular April meeting of the Council of the County
of Newell No. 41 was held in the School Division Office
at 2;00 p.m. on Friday, April 24th, 1953.

The minutes of the previous meeting of March 30th, 1953
were adopted as read.
The question of removal of Cattleguards from C.P.R.
crossings was held over for a future meeting.
The Secretary was directed to call for Tenders for the
sale of the Old School Building situated on the Bow
Bridge School Site, and to especially notify the Chair-
man of the Local Board, vir. Kurash, and a previous
enquirer, mr. R. Brodin.
The Secretary was directed to advise the One Tree
Community Association, that the offer to sell the old
One Tree School Building to them would only be good
until May 15, 1953•
Moved by Councillor Lokier, that the action of the
Chairman and Secretary in procuring office accomodation
from the E.I.D. on a rental basis be concurred in.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Ockey, that in view of the fact
that certain regular accounts awaiting authorization
of the Council would cause hardship to the School Van
Drivers and others. All regular authorized monthly
accounts be paid as they become due.
The Secretary was directed to advise Mr. Geo Winters,
Road. Foreman, that his duties are to commence May 1, 1953•
Moved by Councillor Arrison that permission be granted
to Gas & Oil Products to build a Service Station on the
S.W. corner of the intersection of the Trans -Canada
Highway, and Highway 36, North of Brooks subject to the
regulations of the Provincial District Engineer and the
Town Planning Commission.

Moved by Councillor McAleese that the Secretary's
statement of Revenues and Expenditures for the month
of March be accepted.
Carried.
A letter from Harris and Fingarson re School Annual
Statement etc., was ordered filed.
Moved by Councillor Lokier, that the 1953-54 Requisitions
of the Bow Valley and the Medicine Hat Health Units
be accepted.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor McAleesej that the culverts as
listed by Iaeenbirn Collieries be supplied for in-
stallation in the Eyremore road.
Carried.
Pamphlets and Literature pertaining to Civil Defence
were ordered filed.
Moved by Councillor Arrison, that
the following accounts
be passed for payment.

The Secretary was directed to dispose of the camera and
case, to best advantage.
Adjourned 6:45 to 7:30
Moved by Councillor Ockey, that the Chairman and the
Secretary attend the Secretaries Refresher Course in
Banff, May 19-20 and 21.
Carried.
The Secretary was directed to draw up a By -Law reserving
unto the County Council certain other powers not contained
in the County Act. 11
Moved by Councillor Arrison, that the expenditure on
Public Works for the year 1953 be set at one hundred
and thirty thousand dollars. ($130,000.00)
Carried.
It was unanimously agreed that the County purchase two
#12 Caterpillar Motor Gradersq and a Bomor Attachment
out of 1953 revenues.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Lokier, that where it is required,
a culvert be supplied for entrance to each quarter
section, and should additional approaches be required,
the culvert be purchased and placed by the farmer in
accordance with the requirements of the Councillor.
Carried.
Moved by Councillor Ockey, that the resolution to include
all of the lands presently in unorganized territory,
into School Districts, attached hereto and forming part
of the minutes of this meeting be passed.
Carried.

The Secretary reported with regard to Mrs. M. Gimderson,
Rellind Hills, relief application.
Moved by Councillor Ockey, that the Agricultural Service
Beards recein ahem tosupply2-4-b free to properly
organized locals for the purpose of spraying roadside
weeds be approved.
The Secretary was directed to take steps to eliminate
the Garbage Nuisance North of the Village of Tilley.

WHEREAS in the oppinion of the Council of the
County of Newell No. 4, the burden of taxation is not
equitable, due to such a large portion of this County
being in Unorganized Territory,
AND WHEREAS, all of the lands now in Unorganized
Territory are grazed and contribute considerably to
the earnings of the owners thereof,
NOW THEREFORE be it resolved that the Unorganized
Lands in the County of Newell No. 4 be added to the
existing School Districts as listed below:
