In an effort to enhance the IT Departments ability to acquire, support and maintain
hardware components and software applications that are deployed and utilized
within the organization, the County will establish uniform standards that will be
applied for all County funded IT components which includes Hardware, Software,
and other peripheral devices or aspects of the County’s IT Network.
The application of a minimum enterprise quality standard for hardware will ensure
that the desired degree of reliability for hardware components is achieved, thus
avoiding or reducing the impact of and consequences for end users and IT Support
Staff alike that occur when IT system components fail.
The IT Department in consultation with end users and taking into consideration the
available budget, shall set the minimum standards that will be applied. Approval
from the IT Department shall be required for any variation from these approved
standards before the purchase of County supplied IT system components is carried
out, or in the case of a user supplied device, approval to support user supplied
devices must be received from the IT Department before network access is granted.
The IT Department shall maintain a complete inventory of equipment and software
(including version) provided for each user and will also maintain a summary of
maintenance activities (scheduled and otherwise) carried out on the said
equipment.
Once acquired, work stations will be upgraded through the annual budget approval
process on a set schedule that has been determined by IT for the replacement of
the components in question.
All orders for approved materials shall be placed by the IT Department who will also
retain responsibility for receipt of the goods and verify that items received meet the
specifications that were ordered. The IT Department shall also register the
equipment or software on the network, test and deploy the components, and
ensure that the end user has received an orientation for the use of the items in
question.
