TITLE: PRIVATE WEED CONTROL

POLICY STATEMENT: The Agricultural Services Department has specialized weed control
equipment and employs Vegetation Management Technicians to aid in control of Noxious and
Prohibited Noxious weeds.
POLICY PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to describe the parameters for private land
weed control services.
POLICY GUIDELINES:
Agricultural Lands
1. Agricultural Services staff can perform weed control on private land to aid in the control of
noxious and prohibited noxious weeds.
2. Spraying on agricultural properties will be subject to rates set in the Schedule of Fees bylaw.
3. The designated Weed Inspector will be responsible to determine landowner eligibility.
Noxious Weed Program
1. Landowners, who own land that is infested with noxious or prohibited noxious weeds, are
eligible under this program.
2. Landowners are eligible to receive free equipment, labor and pesticides to control weed
infestations in the first year a weed infestation is identified.
3. Agricultural Services staff will offer control measures if the weed infestation persists beyond
one year, but landowners will be responsible to pay rates as set in the Schedule of Fees Bylaw
for the work.
Commercial Properties or Properties Subject to Weed Notices
1. Commercial properties or properties sprayed in accordance with the Weed Control Act will be
subject to, at minimum, those rates set in the Schedule of Fees bylaw.
Agricultural Services staff will promote the use of private contractors in these areas.
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Weed Inspectors will identify if lands are eligible for control work to be done.
Weed Inspectors should encourage landowner participation.
Agricultural Services staff will maintain a list of private contractors to share with industry and
landowners needing support.
