TITLE: BACTERIAL RINGROT – INSPECTION AND CONTROL

POLICY PURPOSE:
The purpose of this policy is to establish guidelines for Bacterial Ringrot (BRR) inspections and
control.

DEFINITIONS:
BRR – Bacterial Rin Rot
PGA – Potato Growers of Alberta
POLICY GUIDELINES:
1. Yearly inspections for BRR in potatoes will be completed in conjunction with the PGA.
2. Upon receipt of field locations from PGA, the Director of Agricultural Services or their
designate will inspect the fields.
3. Landowners will be notified prior to entry into the fields.
4. Proper sanitation methods will be used to prevent disease spreading from one field to
another.
5. If BRR is found to be present in any of the fields, control measures will be implemented
as specified in the Agricultural Pests Act.
6. To aid farmers in prevention and/or control of BRR the Agricultural Services Department
will provide disinfection services for potato growers within the County of Newell at rates
specified in the Schedule of Fees bylaw.
7. General disinfectant will be provided by the Agricultural Services Department on a cost
recovery basis or may be supplied by the farmer.
