HomeMy WebLinkAbout2016-PAG-032 Sale of Strychnine & Phostoxin COUNTY OF NEWELL - POLICY HANDBOOK POLICY NO: 2016-PAG-032 TITLE: SALE OF STRYCHNINE (2% LSC) & PHOSTOXIN TABLETS ADOPTED: November 24, 2016 (C-372/16) SUPERCEDES NO: 2013-PAG-032 TO BE REVIEWED: PAGE NO: 1 of 2 POLICY PURPOSE: The purpose of this policy is to set out the procedures for distribution of 2% liquid strychnine (2% LSC), and Phostoxin Tablets to farmers and ranchers within the County of Newell. POLICY GUIDELINES: Strychnine: 1. Agricultural Services staff that are licensed and trained in the use of the 2% LSC will train all farmers who request the 2% LSC for ground squirrel control. 2. Only persons, trained in strychnine use may purchase 2% LSC In order to purchase 2% LSC landowners must be bonafide farmers meaning they own at least 80 acres of land zoned for agricultural use. 3. Using the forms of the program, they must provide their name, telephone number and land description where they will apply the product. 4. The 2% LSC will be sold in quantities and prices set in the Schedule of Fees bylaw. 5. There will be a maximum of 2 cases sold at one time to any individual. 6. Agricultural Services Staff reserve the right to refuse this service to any farmer they feel will abuse the program or use the product outside of the label recommendations. 7. Any farmer who contravenes this policy or the label recommendations will forfeit their right to purchase any more product. Only bona fide farmers that have obtained their Valid Farmer Pesticide Certificate and completed the module for either Grain Bin Fumigation or Rodent Control will be able to purchase the product. They must bring their Farmer Pesticide Certificate number with them and it must be recorded at time of purchase 2. The product will be sold in quantities and prices set in the Schedule of Fees bylaw. 3. No Less than one flask of product will be sold to a purchaser. No more than two (2) cases will be sold at one time to any producer. 4. Agricultural Services staff reserve the right to refuse this service to any farmer which they feel will abuse the program or use the product outside of the label recommendations. 5. Any farmer who contravenes this policy of the label recommendations will forfeit their right to purchase any more product.
